Hello and welcome to Day 2 of Remote Learning

Maths

In Wednesday’s maths lesson, you are going to be moving from coordinates in the first quadrant to coordinates in all four quadrants. This means that the x and y axes are going to be extended beyond zero.Therefore, in this lesson you are going to be working with negative as well as positive numbers.

To warm up, I’d like you to start with a negative numbers activity.

To be able to practise placing negative numbers on a number line,you need to select -5 to 5, -10 to 10, -50 to50 or -500 to 500 from the first menu when you enter the game. The larger the range you pick, the harder the game becomes.

Next it’s time to start the main part of your lesson.

Then I’d suggest revisiting the alien coordinates game that you played yesterday, this time selecting four‘quadrants’.

Once you’re confident with how coordinates in 4 quadrants work, move onto the worksheet and complete the questions.

Ideally, you should be spending about an hour on maths a day so if you find you have some extra time, try some of the other free games on the Mathsframe website.

We will be continuing with the Sherlock Unit of Work from the Oak National Academy. Today (Wednesday) I'd like you to work through Lesson 2: Homophones.
This is a spelling focused lesson and so will be quite different to what you did on Day 1.

To further support your learning about homophones, go to the Spelling Frame website and practise Spelling Rule 48 -Homophones and other words that are often confused

There's a free game called Birds V Robots available, and you can access the Practise / Test section like we do in school.

Don't forget that it would be a really good idea if you accessed the Read Theory Website and complete somecomprehensions.Remember the texts you are given match your reading level and so shouldn't be too easy or too hard.

Finally, Wednesday's topic lesson will be RE. Y6 are expected to learn about Buddhism and so we are going to be using the Oak Academy's unit of work.

I'd like the children to watch Lesson 1: Who was Siddhartha Gautama?

In this lesson the children will be learning about Siddhartha Gautama. He was the first individual to have achieved enlightenment through the practice of meditation. He became known as Buddha, which means ‘the enlightened one’. The children will learn about his life and his journey to enlightenment.No worksheets required - just a pen or pencil and a piece of paper.
