WELCOME BACK OTTERS

I hope you had a restful and relaxing half term and are now ready to for some more remote learning. Here's the schedule for today:

MATHS WARM UP – CGP MATHS ONLINE 10 MINUTE TEST

I’d like you to try a different type of mental maths warm up today. Follow the link below and take the online ‘test’. Although this test says it’s for Y5, it’s suitable for Y6 children as well.

MATHS MAIN LESSON

Today we will shall continue working upon the short unit of learning we started before half term about measurement. In this lesson, you will consider the relationship between miles and kilometres. In this country, we use miles as a measurement of distance on our roadways. Our roads signs tell us how far we are from villages, towns and cities in miles; in the same way, our road signs also tell us how fast we are driving in miles per hour (mph). However if you were to travel to Europe, you would notice that they measure distances in kilometres and speed in kilometres per hour (kph). That is not to say that we don’t use kilometres. If you’re into running, you may choose to do a 5km or 10km run. So we definitely need to know how to use both!

Watch the White Rose video and complete the attached worksheets as usual.

WRITING

I’m really hoping that we will be back in school by March 8th so that we can write biographies of Charles Darwin, an important scientist who we will be learning about in science this half term. In preparation for this, I’d like you to work through this Oak Academy lesson on the features of biography.

In this lesson, you will be introduced to what a biography is, you will look at the features of a biography and you will find examples of features in a biography.

LIVE GRAMMAR LESSON AT 11:15 on ZOOM

In your biographical writing this half term, you will need to be able to write sentences which include relative clauses. Bring a pen/pencil to this session and some paper.

GEOGRAPHY

How are biomes being protected and preserved?

In this lesson, you are going to be learning about conservation, both in relation to plants (flora) and animals (fauna). You will look specifically at conservation of forests and conservation of corn buntings, a bird that lives in the United Kingdom. You will end the lesson by considering what you can do to support conservation in your local area.
