Welcome to our class page for the academic year 2020-21 Please see the below links for up-to-date newsletters, spelling lists and homework for each half of term.

A bit about us! We are a mixed age class of Year 2/3. We have two teachers during the week. Mrs Wallbank is in class Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and Mrs Taylor is in class Monday to Friday.

Our Teaching Assistants are Mrs Bridgeman and Mrs McGarrell who will be in Monday-Friday.

In Whitebeam class we strive to achieve our best and support each other so that we can reach our full potential. We have a relaxed and happy classroom atmosphere where we adhere to our Christian values, our class rules and our school motto. We have a nurturing environment where we can learn, have fun and reflect on our positive behaviours for learning.

This academic year started with our Recovery Curriculum following the Lockdown in the Summer Term.  We established new routines as the children returned to school in September with  a focus on PSHE and daily opportunities for the children to reflect upon and discuss their feelings and wishes.  This approach has continued especially during the Lockdown which started in January 2021 and as all the children returned to school in March.

Curriculum Projects

Autumn 1 – Recovery Curriculum

Autumn 2 – Spring 1 – China with a focus on the Shang Dynasty

Fighting Fit – looking at the importance of keeping healthy and fit

Spring 2 – Summer 1 – Secrets of the Sea – again with a focus on physical activity and PSHE opportunities both inside and outside.

Summer 2 –

We have introduced some new initiatives to embed key skills:

Spellingframe – the children can work on their weekly spellings at home online as they play games as well as writing them daily in class.

Tackling Tables – again an online activity at home to help the children recall multiplication and division facts as quickly as possible.  In class this is achieved through quick fire games with a partner with Tackling Tables cards.

We are immensely proud of the children, how they have transitioned back into school, the obvious joy of being reunited with their friends and their attitude towards their learning.

In class, we know that good behaviour leads to an excellent classroom ethos where listening is learning! We put our hands up to ask and answer questions and listen well to each other making sure to take turns when speaking.

You can help your child at home by:

  • Hearing them read each day
  • Encouraging them to complete their homework and spellings
  • Practising times tables through chanting and using Tackling Tables online
  • Ensuring they have the correct kit for school time.  Please make sure that ALL school uniform is named.
  • Offering any help or knowledge with curriculum projects

Happy Learning for the year!

Best wishes,
All in Whitebeam Class.
